Welcome
The Spirit of London Awards (SOLA) have been created as a fusion of all the great celebrity award shows such as the BRITS and MOBO with the one big difference being - The stars of the show are the unsung young heroes of our local communities and the celebrities are there to applaud and pay homage to them - The Community Oscars!
The Damilola Taylor Trust developed the awards to address the imbalance in the way young people were perceived due to a small minority who create negative media headlines. The awards are now the standard bearer for the majority of the fantastic young people of London.
What's happening?
This Year we welcome SAVE THE CHILDREN as a collaborative partner in the awards as they join forces with us to launch the national BORN TO INSPIRE YOUNG CAMPAIGNER OF THE YEAR category. We are very excited to be working with such an inspirational global brand and look forward to seeing inspirational young people from all around the UK joining us in London for the awards event which is at the Royal Albert Hall this Year.
The SOLA Foundation has also been launched in 2011 and the founder Management are working hard on developing outreach programmes to compliment everything that SOLA stands for. We believe that "Youth Empowerment" is the key to unlocking solutions to a lot of the negative issues prevalent in our inner cities and the SOLA Ambassadors that are coming through the nominations year on year can be an empowered collective force for good. The "bigger picture" as marketing people might say, is coming together nicely!
The Awards
The award categories span right across the many areas of interest that young people enjoy taking part in. Please remember when making your nominations though that the key ingredient that judges will be looking for is "community spirit" and "positive citizenship" - Applied to whatever the discipline they excel in may be whether music, sport or business, it is still the key to the magic of the community Oscars - REAL PEOPLE - REAL LIVES - REAL ROLE MODELS
